What is SafeFanControl?
SafeFanControl is a native macOS application that puts you in control of your Mac’s fans — safely. It reads real-time temperature and fan data from your hardware and lets you define exactly how your fans should respond.
Monitor mode is free forever. A one-time purchase unlocks fan control — no subscription, no recurring fees.
Why “Safe”?
Most fan control tools let you pin fans at arbitrary speeds without any guardrails. SafeFanControl is different: it enforces a Safe Max ceiling that prevents you from accidentally overheating your Mac by setting fans too low. The app also uses latch / no-bounce logic to avoid fan speed oscillation, and smooth fade transitions to keep things quiet.
The goal is simple — give you real control without letting you shoot yourself in the foot.
What it runs on
SafeFanControl supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS Ventura and later. It is generation-aware across M1 through M5 chips, with the correct sensor IDs for each. A privileged background helper daemon handles the low-level SMC communication; because of this, the app cannot be distributed through the Mac App Store.
